I am Richard Ball, a freelance video editor based in North Yorkshire, between Leeds and York.
I've been editing professionally for 13 years, 6 of which were working at the BBC.
MY SKILLS
My skills bring together well-paced editing with careful music choice and stylish graphics.
I use Final Cut Pro, a fast, accurate editing system that allows me to create complex multi-layered visual effects.
MY EDITS
Since becoming freelance 4 years ago, I've continued broadcast editing for both the BBC and ITV.
My corporate work is for some of Britain's largest and best known companies.
RECENT PROJECTS
JULY
This month I am editing videos for the Rank Group. They are gathering the casinos managers together for a conference to review the changes to the business in the past 12 months.
The opener will summarise how the staff and customers feel, with energy and excitement.
JUNE
Hallmark Cards promoted their Father's Day range by having a daddy dance competition. I edited a looping video that was shown throughout the day at their events across the country. I also edited a review showing the success of their promotional activities.
MAY
Once a year, Whitbread get together the general managers from their hotel and restaurant brands for a lively conference. I've been busy editing their VTs using ideas from The Apprentice and X-Factor to make the messages memorable.
APRIL
The massive project this month is creating the video content for a Costa Coffee conference. All their general managers will attend to learn about business performance and looking ahead to the new summer product range. There's over 40 videos to edit in 3 weeks.
MARCH
One project this month is for Weight Watchers. They have a conference in Barcelona and I'm editing a summary video highlighting events and changes during their successful year.
FEBRUARY
I'm working on a massive project this month, a new induction video for Whitbread. Every new starter in the business will learn about the whole company; it's brands, ethics and training programs. I'm creating the entire look and feel, with Motion graphics and animated sequences.
MY SKILLS
I EDIT TV PROGRAMMES
I worked for the BBC for 6 years and, as a freelancer, have been editing for both the BBC and ITV. Working in Pebble Mill allowed me to be involved in a diverse range of programs like Top Gear and Countryfile, Newsnight and House Invaders.
I EDIT CORPORATE FILMS
I produce films for some of Britain's largest companies, including Whitbread and Paramount. They show my films at annual conferences and use them for external promotion, internal training and service quality improvement.
I CREATE MOTION GRAPHICS
Whether it's a title sequence or on-screen information, well designed motion graphics give a professional look to any program. I use Photoshop and Motion to create clear and well laid out visuals, animated to flow through the video.
I MIX SOUND
I was trained at the BBC to mix sound to broadcast standards, whether it's for a live broadcast or an edited film. I also use my knowledge and understanding of music to strengthen the desired mood changes during the program.
I AUTHOR DVDS
Intelligent authoring of DVDs can help a trainer run through modules in a structured way, with pauses programmed to allow for discussion. I have produced many DVDs, some with over 50 video modules, all with clear menus to allow for flexible viewing.
I CONVERT VIDEO FORMATS
Videos now come in a multitude of different formats. Whether your video is to be broadcast or embedded into a Power Point presentation, I have the knowledge and understanding to create the right solution for you.
